Lesbian wedding outfits – suits and tuxedos for women

Have you been driven half-mad trying to find a half-decent wedding suit or tuxedos for your lesbian wedding? Androgynous lesbian wedding attire is criminally hard to find!

As we all know, many lesbians decide against wedding dresses altogether. Frills and flounces make us recoil in horror, and we just feel plain silly in a skirt. We like clothing that’s a little edgy, androgynous or downright butch. If you’ve already started your search, you’ll know that finding lesbian wedding attire (like funky wedding suits and tuxedos for women) can be a struggle. So what can you do?

Here are our answers to your questions about how to find lesbian wedding cothing that works for you.

Question 1:  Where can I find lesbian wedding suits?

It’s really hard. They just don’t make ’em! I keep my eyes peeled constantly, and they are REALLY thin on the ground!

Of the very few on offer, my favorite is this wedding suit from designer Alfred Angelo (left).

This sophisticated but easy-to-wear suit comes in three colors: ivory, black and cashmere. There is an elegant lace design wrought into the fabric. The jacket comes with a matching camisole, and there are matching pants (sold separately).

The Alfred Angelo label specializes in ready-to-wear, affordable bridal fashion.

It’s good to see that they offer at least this one wedding suit, because not many other designers are branching out in this way!

Question 2: If I can’t find women’s tuxedos and women’s bridal suits, what else can I do?

If you’re searching for a women’s tuxedo or bridal suit, you’ve probably already come up empty handed. At best, the only bridal suits you’ve been able to find are skirt suits. So give up on trying to find a bridal suit, simply search for pants suits. You’re bound to find something that fits the bill. My only word of warning is that you’ll find heaps of pants suits for business wear. They will not work. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to make a business suit look ‘bridal’! Instead, look for pants suits for parties, casual events and formal wear.

Capri-style white suit for lesbian wedding

Capri-style white suit. $140 at Amazon.

For example, for a relaxed wedding in a casual, outdoor setting, I really like this capri pants suit (left).

The suit is not a ‘wedding suit’ per se, but who cares? No-one will know!

Just team the suit with a very elegant sandal in silver or gold, and wear chunky jewelry to match, and you’ll look like a million dollars on your wedding day.

suit for lesbian wedding

Retro gold totem two-piece. Around $120 at Amazon.

Be aware that it is a plus-size item, so it’s designed to flatter fuller figures.

If you have a slender frame, you can get a bit cheeky with shorts and a formal jacket, like this little 2-piece to the right. This will work well if your loved-one is wearing a dress with gold-highlights: the gold brocade on this suit will unit your outfits.

Question 3: What if I can’t find any suit I like!

Here’s my big tip: focus on finding the jacket.

That’s right, It’s all about the jacket.

Since you can’t find the entire wedding suit or tuxedo, just concentrate on the jacket. There are heaps of jackets and blazers available. And once you’ve found one that you LOVE, just take the jacket shopping with you, and match the color and fabric. Usually, you’ll be matching white with white, or black with black. Take yourself to a big department store with your jacket, and ask one of the sales staff to help you match the color.

This jacket has a gorgeous tuxedo shape. When it arrives, take it shopping with you to find a great pair of pants to match with the top. $285 from Amazon

This double-breasted tuxedo blazer is less fitted and works well over an oversized white shirt. Again, wait until you’ve got the tux before you buy your black pants so you can match the black tone.

Wedding suits for women don’t have to be severe or masculine. The suit jacket above has a gorgeous vintage floral design that gives it a timeless, romantic look.

Stylish pants

These pin-striped pants with cross back braces can be worn with a Women’s Tuxedo Shirt. Add a bow tie and a jacket if you wish, but there’s no need. You can just wear the shirt and pants for Rat Pack style wedding attire.

Complete wedding suits for women

I found the off white suit above at Italiano Fashion. This site is gay-friendly and they have a great returns policy, but they are a bit slack on images and descriptions. The description says “wool” but it’s in fact only 20% wool.  On the positive side, it is  a guarenteed authentic Cavalli, and heavily discounted from $1298 to $389. This’ll give you lots of extra money in your pocket for any necessary adjustments (e.g. leg and sleeve shortening). Team it with a camisole in earthy colors, such as gold, brown or green (stay away from blacks and bright neon colors as they will clash with the off-white tone).

A good option for finding lesbian wedding attire is to look in the ‘mother of the bride’ section of wedding stores. It’s a great way to find suits for women with a bridal sensibility. That’s how I found this Champagne Chiffon Pant Suit. It has a chiffon jacket, and a slit above the ankle to show off your shoes. It was $130 at time of writing.

The pant suit above is another find in the ‘mother of the bride’ section. It’s available in a range of colors, from blushing pink, to silver, to white.

Cheap and cheerful lesbian wedding attire

I couldn’t resist adding a photo of this little tuxedo jumpsuit (slim cut). It’s a cheap and cheerful $30!
